Every type of roof has its strengths but no roof, no matter how well built is completely immune from the relentless assaults from wind, sun, and rain. Sooner or later a roof will need some repair work and while we always prefer to avoid repairs through our preventative maintenance programs it's good to know we are there on call if things need a little fixing.
Leaks can be down to a number of causes depending on the type of roofing but our first steps usually involve examining the flashing. Drains and gutter issues are another source of trouble since any water that's not encouraged to flow away runs the risk of ponding. If there's standing water then you have a secondary problem in the making because that water exacerbates the affect of UV damage so it's essential to call us as soon as you notice water isn't running away as it should.
Blistering, Cracks, Punctures
Blistering is a big problem for built up roofing and is usually the fault of the asphalt layers not having been heated to the right temperature when they were applied in the first place. It's not a problem with our professionally installed roofs but we often get called in to fix other people's work where significant blisters and cracks are opening in the asphalt. Some blisters aren't a problem but there is always the risk of the blisters bursting and starting a process of water ingress. Punctures aren't something you associate with roofing but they are a real problem for membrane roofs and often happen due to improper installation or maintenance workers accidentally being a little heavy handed or careless. Once the membrane is punctured there is a risk of leaks and erosion so we will find the puncture and fix it.
Shingle and Slate Replacement
Broken shingles or tiles should be replaced as soon as possible before the elements get a chance to do their thing and work on the surrounding tiles. It's often not a big job but for our roofing professionals it is also an opportunity to check that there isn't any further damage beyond the broken tiles you can see. We also check for any underlying issues with the frame or underlay that may have led to the tile problem in the first place.
Preventative Maintenance and Inspections
We know from long experience that the very best way to repair a roof is to ensure it never gets the point where it needs repairs at all and that means preventative maintenance. We are happy to inspect your roof and suggest everything that needs to be done and the steps that can be taken to reduce repair bills in the future. We provide roofing inspections for property buyers before they buy, for insurance estimates, and on a regular basis for commercial and residential maintenance. Why worry about the roof over your head when you can make the job of full time roofing professionals to take care of your property?
